And The Door Closes…
With a big slam the door to the house closes. I guess in the end its for the best we found out before we went all the way and bought it. What happened? Well it all started last night…
See since we were buying a house that was bank owned, the utilities couldn’t be turned on until there was an accepted contract. So in our offer we had everything contingent on the inspection with the utilities on. Well that inspection was last night. First there was some faucets that needed repair…100.00$ ok not bad. Then we noticed some bubbling of the wall in the mudroom, we’re told from a prior roof leak, Hmmm. We went in knowing we’d have to put a new roof on, so we offered accordingly. Then the kicker, with the lights on in the basement we noticed some green stuff growing all over the rafters, as we got to looking it was EVERYWHERE!! On furniture they had stored down there and everything. It’s about 3 inches thick and green. We were worried so we said we’d call a mold inspector today to see what they have to say.
We were told that it would take cleaning and filtration systems and cleaning of the ductwork, and if it was behind the wall that’s bubbled in the mud room, tiring down of the wall!! All around about a 2-3 thousand dollar fix, and no guarantee it wouldn’t come back. I can’t do that and fix a roof and minor plumbing it was all just starting to pile up!! And with the boys’ condition they aren’t to be subjected to mold, I can’t risk that stuff being in the ducts so when I turn my heat on it’s blown all over the house!
So the door slammed shut this afternoon. Disappointed…Yes. Stressed… Yes. Heartbroken… A little. Out 400 dollars for an appraisal… Defiantly. Pissed about that… You bet!!
But as a wise Father said… “Where He shuts one door, He may open a window.” So we will keep on, keeping on…

Better you get a house you can just move into and relax. Besides, I couldn't come up the weekend of the painting party anyway. I will try for the next one!
:( Pity. But Brae's right, you'll find a better house.
Hey, you may find a million dollar stash the former owners of a home forgot they left.
Sorry about that Kate, but at least the $400 was well spent. House shopping is incredibly stressful, but keep your head up!
That's very sad, Katie. I'm feeling your pain.
The bright side (if there is one) is that you found out ahead of time. I was way ahead of your post in thinking about the boys and the mold issue. That alone was worth the $400.
Aw. I'm sorry to hear about this. Best to find out now then after taking the boys to the doctor day after day wondering what happened.
Don't give up the hope of finding your home. It's out there-just waiting for you.
Keep your chin up girlie. It'll be ok.
*hugs*
everything happens for a reason... maybe your dream house is available and out there and He didn't want you to miss out on it by getting this one that was going to be more blood, sweat, and tears than you and your family need to take on. all is not lost and your house will be found.
i love you and good luck.
Wow!! Sorry about all this sweetie.
Good quote!
I'm so sorry! You'll find the right house for your family! Don't worry!!!
Hmmmm....I think that was a wise mother that said that.
Oh Kate, I can really relate. We had something similar happen months ago with a house we wanted to buy. It was a constant rollercoaster of emotions, but now that we're off of it, I'm glad. Things work out for the best - in both of our cases it seems. Still, I'm sorry you're not moving. If you're like me, I was really excited about moving somewhere new and decorating our house. It'll come soon enough!
Whoa..take it from someone who spent the last 6 years in insurance...YOU DON'T WANT TO BUY THAT HOUSE!..Buying a house with existing mold issues with two kids with health issues...is a horrible time bomb. Be glad you found out now...trust me on this one. Bad ju-ju
something better and healthier will come along:)
Yeah...
All the good stuff is listed above.
Might as well not even look in that neighborhood at all.
You're doing the right thing.
I totally understand the house buying roller coaster, but thank goodness you found out about it before you signed on the dotted line! We lost out on a couple houses we really wanted, but in the end, we go the one we were meant to. You'll find the right one soon! And just think, you've already got a bunch of stuff packed already :)
Oh I am *so* glad you found out before you were STUCK with it for good.
I'd think that while it was hard to give that $400 it really was worth it in the end...
So there's a better house out there for you...sounds lame, but you gotta know, right?
