The 5,000 Dollar Shirt.......

5,000.00 dollars for a shirt??!! That’s right people, in a magazine I was browsing through today they had a top a sheer one to boot that was priced a 5k!!

Now I ask you, who can really afford that? You gotta figure that most of the celebrities are GIVEN the clothes, so that leaves the rich, the business moguls the CEO and the like. Which whatever, but the majority of America is not in that class, and yes no matter what Washington says there are Classes in America, so we will never be able to afford that.

Why aren’t their fashion magazines that show clothes we can actually afford? Cause I know me and I know that even if by some stroke of luck I someday was rich and could actually afford to buy a 5,000.00 shirt like it only cost 15.00, I know I wouldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to do that when I know there are so many more worthy things to spend it on than a piece of clothing.

Now I like fashion as much as the next girl, more than most really, but I also dig a great bargain. I mean really can you really tell a pair of 500.00 dollar jeans from a pair of 30.00 dollar jeans, other than the fact your out 470.00 dollars??? I for one don’t believe fashion has to have a price tag.

For years I have been told by many a people they like the way I dress or my fashion since if you will. I always let them in on a little secret I’m not sure if they ever really believe. I’m cheap and I NEVER, spare my wedding dress, spend that much. How much you may ask….Let me break it down for you. I never spend more than 20.00 on jeans, no more than 15.00 on a top rather it be tee shirt or sweater, no more than 30.00 on a dress, and no more than 30.00 on shoes [and I do have good shoes]. My wedding dress I mentioned earlier? I found a great dress at a shop that was going out of business and I paid a whopping, you ready for this? I paid 100.00. And it is a killer dress! You just have to know where to look and have the gumption to go out and “dig” up a bargain.

So my point really is I feel in today’s world with all the problems that are out there, that it is just down right disgraceful to spend 5,000.00 on a shirt. But then again I am cheap… With Money…You dirty people!!!

I agree. There comes a point where spending over a certain amount of money on anything is just decadence.

OK...this is where you will think I spend too much on clothes but i am a clothing whore. I can tell the difference between 300$ and 30$ jeans easy...same with a suit or dress. The fabric will be better quality and the outfit will last longer through wear and tear. Don't get me wrong..i love a good bargin and have lots of clothes under 20$ BUT I spend $150-200 on my jeans...always. It's hard for me to find the right fit and I consider certain wardrobes peices an investment. Shoes,Jeans, purses and watches are always a bit more upscale for me...

Make-up too...i use Benefit,Perscriptives and Lancome....the stuff just lasts longer and looks better.

I think a 15K shirt is utterly stupid though and remember my disbelief when I saw the 1 million dollar bra that Victoria's Secret put out.

I can tell the quality ON ME but I don't think others could tell by looking at me, ya know. I mean I personally can't tell Jimmy Choo shoes on someone with out seeing the label....

when i buy myself clothes i feel guilty if i spend alot. i think i could buy my kids something instead.

if i ever invested in something like that-it would SURELY go back the next day once i came back to my senses.

Trojan-do you have kids? I can't ever imagine spending 200 bucks for a pair of jeans-unless they made me look like a size 6 and gave me a j-lo booty. but then still...i'd really question them.

At that point (that price), It is all about having something that you can say, "Nee-ner, Nee-ner! I have something you don't!"

At that price, it is not about quality or comfort or even style.

It's about ego.

I almost spent $100 on a pair of jeans. So far I'm up to $60, because I love gap jeans! I agree with Trojan- it really is hard to find the perfect fit in jeans. My clothing prices vary greatly, but for stuff I know I'm going to have a while, I tend toward high end stuff. I still cringe when I can't buy Victoria's Secret stuff on sale.

I would love to buy higher quality clothes, but it's just not a priority right now. I can't imagine spending $5K on a see through shirt though, even if I was dripping in money. You could pay for kid's college education for a year for that!

I can't remember the last time I bought clothes new. I'm a thrift store junkie and love it when I find brand name stuff for $5! It's more of a treasure hunt since I don't really need any new clothes. I just want to see how good a deal I can find.

Society is heavy with classes, and getting worse (or better depending upon which side you're on) all the time.

As for me, I always wander back to the Clearance rack. At American Eagle, Aeropostale or Eddie Bauer, I can always find something nice for half price or less. Since I'm not growing anymore, I can buy a pair of shorts in October and put them away for next year.

Some people claim to be able to tell an expensive article from a cheaper one. They're either very knowledgable or big phonies.

The phonies could use a shoe piece.

Omg - I'm so much like you. I'm the same way about what feels right to spend on clothes!

However, my wedding dress cost a tad more than yours.
